“Whilst our board has now moved on to electronic board papers, does anybody have any practical suggestions for disposal of old paper board packs sitting in NEDs’ homes / offices, particularly where having to wait at home for a courier or a mobile shredding unit is considered too inconvenient?”

We too send out board papers electronically and still get one or two bringing hard copy packs to meetings. Our NEDs also tend to leave the papers with us immediately after each meeting for us to shred.

We have despatched board papers electronically for many years but it hasn’t put a complete stop to hard copy packs turning up at meetings. Our NEDs tend to leave the papers with us immediately after each meeting for us to shred.

As above, NEDs bring any confidential shredding in to the office for shredding when they visit. The question gives the worrying impression that some NEDs don’t visit the office enough!

Directors have tended to bring their old packs/papers into the office for confidential shredding once they have no use for them.

In the past we have sent couriers and the company chauffeur to collect the packs where there is a lot material, otherwise NEDs bring back small amounts for disposal each time they are in the office.

For the most part, our NEDs bring their old packs back into the office and we dispose of them with our confidential shredding.
Now that we use BoardPad (one year in), the few people that have the odd paper copy of documents tend to leave them with me at the end of the meeting for disposal.
