Are any main Listed PLCs using mid-tier law firms (below silver circle) for corporate advice and if so do they have any recommendations?

I think its about exactly what you need.
On Governance/Listing Rule/Companies Act compliance, I agree with the Addleshaws recommendations.
Pinsent Mason has Martin Webster who is another strong governance guru although it has been while since I have done anything with that firm.

We use Eversheds Sutherland for a range of legal areas and have found them good value and pragmatic advisers. We also use Blake Morgan for Employment and Pensions.

I’d also recommend Addleshaw Goddard (Will Chalk, Richard Preston).

I would highly recommend Addleshaw Goddard.
We use Roger Hart (in Manchester) and Will Chalk, as they have lower rates than London. They are pragmatic and responsive and generally good value for money. They run annual GC sessions, which are free of charge and a good CPD event and they publish regular helpful bulletins which you can register for (Corporate News) (GC updates) etc.
