Recruiting female NEDs

7th July 2016 8 Comments

A FTSE250 Company Secretary writes...

“As NEDs have changed, we have been trying to recruit additional female non-executive directors but despite using leading head hunters, we have struggled often even to find any suitable candidates.  Can anyone recommend a recruitment firm who they have found particularly effective at sourcing suitable female candidates for a NED position?”

Not an area in which I work, but you could also try The 30% Club (30percentclub.org/) for advice.

I’d thoroughly recommend Warren Partners and Joelle Warren in particular. They cast the net wider and take the time to understand your business and its needs before proposing candidates.

We used Nick Green at MWM Consulting when we were trying to attract female NXD candidates with financial experience and capable of chairing an audit committee. MWM came up with some very strong candidates.

Highly recommend Zygos. We recently recruited a female NED and they put together a very strong list of candidates.

Is the problem with the ‘leading head hunters’ ?

Your query suggests that your company is looking to fulfill the Davies’ criteria. I would suggest that you advise your board to re-visit the qualifications, skills and criteria for the role.

Failing that, there is the Women on Boards website.

BTW – I am female, in a senior executive position within a plc, looking for a NED position!
