We ask all attendees to hand in their mobile devices at the door, and they don’t seem to have a problem with this – however, we usually only get 30 or so attending and the exercise is quite simple with these numbers.

We do the usual checking of bags, warnings etc but otherwise take no precautions. The bigger issue to my mind is the live tweeting. Hasn’t been a problem we’ve encountered yet but we are aware others have and we are more sensitive to that.
In the end it’s down to ensuring the Chairman and responders are adequately prepared.

As with the first FTSE 100 company to comment our Notice states that tape recorders, cameras, laptops are not permitted into the AGM – but we have also found this is almost impossible to enforce. All bags are searched before they enter the meeting room so if necessary we could insist on these items being left outside. We also challenge anybody who is overtly recording the meeting. However, we have had instances where our meetings have been covertly recorded, we suspect on mobile phones. We took the decision that it was not feasible to insist mobile phones were not taken into the meeting.

We have a live broadcast of the AGM so there’s little need for anyone to record it.
